Caustic Rings of Dark Matter
نویسنده
چکیده
It is shown that the infall of collisionless dark matter onto isolated galaxies produces a series of caustic rings in the halo dark matter distribution. The properties of these caustics are investigated. It is found in particular that the density profile of the caustic behaves as the inverse distance to the ring. Bumps in the rotation curve of NGC 3198 are interpreted as due to caustic rings of dark matter. PACS numbers: 95.35.+d, 98.35.Gi Typeset using REVTEX

Searching for Supersymmetric Dark Matter. the Modulation Effect Due to the Caustic Rings
The detection of the theoretically expected dark matter is central to particle physics and cosmology. Current fashionable supersymmetric models provide a natural dark matter candidate which is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). The theoretically obtained event rates are usually very low or even undetectable. So the experimentalists would like to exploit the modulation effect. In the pr...
متن کاملNeutralino Dark Matter and Caustic Ring Signals
We have studied the effects on the gamma-ray flux on Earth by neutralino annihilations in caustic rings of dark matter in the Galactic halo. The caustic ring model by Sikivie has been used where dark matter particles are assumed to possess angular momentum with respect to the Galactic centre. The computer code DarkSUSY was then used to examine the supersymmetric implications on the flux. We con...

The recently discovered ring of stars near Galactocentric distance r = 20 kpc is interpreted as baryonic matter accreted onto the second caustic ring of dark matter in our galaxy. Caustic rings of dark matter were predicted in the Galactic plane at radii an ≃ 40 kpc/n where n = 1, 2, 3... They can reveal themselves by their gravitational influence on the distribution of baryonic matter. There i...
متن کاملCaustic Rings and Cold Dark Matter
The hierarchical cold dark matter (CDM) model for structure formation is a well defined and testable model. Direct detection is the best technique for confirming the model yet predictions for the energy and density distribution of particles on earth remain inadequate. Axially symmetric collapse of collisionless dark matter can leave observable caustic rings in phase space and this model is freq...
